Battle for Berrima met on Wednesday, 13 November 2019 in the office of the Hon. Robert Stokes at Parliament House, Macquarie Street, Sydney to discuss the progress of the Hume Coal project.
>The Honourable Rob Stokes. Minister for Planning and Public Spaces
>Wendy Tuckerman MP, Member for Goulburn
>Mike Young, Executive Director, Dept of Planning and Environment
>Representatives of Battle for Berrima
>Representatives of Coal Free Southern Highlands
Minister Stokes showed a genuine interest in the Hume Coal project and in our concerns. The meeting was convivial and, in our estimation, productive.
In short, the outcome of the meeting was:
>The Government awaits a response from Hume Coal to the queries raised by the Independent Planning Commission (IPC);
>The timing of Hume Coal's response is not fixed;
>The performance of the IPC is being examined by Minister Stokes. This will not affect the timing of the decision (see http://productivity.nsw.gov.au/ipc-review); and
>It is expected that a decision on the Hume Coal project will be made by mid 2020
