DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT RECOMMENDS HUME COAL PROJECT SHOULD NOT BE APPROVED

December 11, 2018

The Department of Planning and Environment has recommended that the Hume Coal and Berrima Rail projects are NOT in the public interest and should NOT be approved.

"The Department considers there is currently considerable scientific uncertainty about the level of environmental damage to both groundwater and surface water resources. The Department has referred the projects to the Independent Planning Commission for a public hearing which is likely to be held in early 2019.
