The Department through its preliminary assessment report has recommended that the Hume Coal Project and associated Berrima Rail Project should not be approved.

While both an encouraging and critically important development in the battle to prevent Hume Coal gaining approval, prevention of the project is not yet a certainty.

Because more than 25 submissions objecting to the proposal were received, the Independent Planning Commission (IPC) must now hold a public hearing into the project and determine Hume Coal’s development application.
